Voicethread

I learned about a Web 2.0 tool about a year ago that I have only recently begun to investigate.  It is called voicethread and is a way to do digital storytelling.  What I learned is that there is an education side to this as well, ed.voicethread.com.  You can get a free educator account, for a one time fee of $10.00.  I made the decision to go ahead and do it.  So far, I’ve only played around with it a little, but am looking forward to using it more.  There are a couple of projects in the back of my mind to do with students, and I will keep you posted!

Geocaching

Have you ever heard of geocaching? It’s a great game to play if you want to be a modern day pirate! You use a GPS device and enter waypoints (longitude and latitude), then you are off to search for your treasure!

So, where do you get the waypoints? That’s the cool part. People all over the world hide “caches” in various places. They might hide them in the woods, in a parking lot, or even in busy cities. Then, they calculate the waypoints using their own GPS device, log on the website http://www.geoching.com, and post them for all the world to see. Then you, as a geocacher, log on to the same website, find caches you want to search for, enter the waypoints into your GPS, then off you go!

Have fun!
